Service that WOWS: Big City Subs and Grill

I was waiting on my car to be serviced at my favorite mechanic shop,  Hi Teck Collisions. (Off of State Road 7 in Tamarac.) I was absolutely starving and asked for recommendations of what I could eat for lunch in the area. The neighborhood has nothing  but mechanic, tire shops and car parts stores.

The first place they recommended was called PLAYERS Sports Bar and Grill. Sounded like a strip club to me and when I opened the door I was hit with a cloud of smoke that felt like a grimy bar.  Sorry, I don’t like my food with smoke unless it’s on a grill.

Next stop was across the street. Hong Kong City. How can you go wrong? It’s Chinese food. The best part was their tag line was “New York China Town Cuisine.” Authentic NYC Chinese food? Hmmm… Makes a lot of sense. lol Gotta love that marketing! Too funny. I walked into a small dark restaurant and the manager was at the front and had his back to the door. He knew I was standing there, but proceeded to fill out checks to pay his bills. I figured, maybe he’s in the middle of writing and I won’t disturb him.

But after a few minutes, he knew I was there.  I mean, come on…He didn’t look up, he didn’t say, “Sorry,  I’ll be with you in a moment.”  He didn’t do anything. I thought it was just me. But sure enough,  another customer came in and he did the exact same thing to them. Really dude? Do you not want our money, so that you can write out more checks? You don’t need my business and trust me you won’t get it. I told my loud stomach to hush up as I walked out the door.

By now,  I’m annoyed – hungry as heck and ready to give up. Next door was a little convenient store so, I got one of those little cracker and cheese packets. Maybe, it will hold me over I thought. The cashier was nice enough to look at the package and say, “Oh man, it’s expired!” I looked at it and it was over a year old. GROSS. LOL

Next…By now, I figured I would just suck it up and deal with my growling belly and wait at the mechanics. But that’s when I walked past the “Subways” sign painted a window. It was a new store I never noticed before. When I walked into Big City Subs and Grill,  I actually heard angels singing.

I was greeted with a warm hello. I wanted breakfast, but by now it was lunch time. It was a subs place with a small deli/diner feel. I asked, “Do you still have breakfast?”

The co-owner Alissa replied with a big smile, “All day!”

She asked me my name and when my food was ready she came over to my table and said, “Here you go, Simone.” I sat and ate my egg sandwich with a smile, but I also observed just what a switch the customer service was compared to the Hong Kong City treatment. Alissa remembered people’s favorite sandwiches, even if they only came one time before. She greeted everyone so nicely and made small talk. I found out they were only open for about three months and had another location as well.  I told her about my experience before getting there and thanked her for being so kind. Turns out  it’s a family business and her husband Pat is the cook.

It’s amazing how someone just being pleasant can shift your day. How genuine quality service will make you a customer for life. I was  so pleased with Big City Subs and Grills, I went back to the mechanic with loads of their flyers and told them they better go or else. Lol Nah, I didn’t really threaten them, but I did tell them it was very much worth it.

Two BIG thumbs up to Big City Subs and Grills and Hong Kong City get big thumbs and my two big toes for HORRIBLE customer service.  LOL
